Mission Statement

The Lindenhurst Police Department Explorer Post #2008 offers young adults, boys and girls, the opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement.  Explorers are taught, by police officers, a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities.  Exploring offers experimental learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of yung adults.

Some aspects taught are, but not limited to:

The Explorers each year have an opportunity to show what they have learned at either a State-Wide Conference or a National Conference.  The conferences allow the Explorers to network with other explorer posts from around Illinois and the United States.  Conferences also have many seminars dealing with specific aspects of law enforcement.  Many Federal, State and Local agencies recruit new candidates during these conferences.

Lindenhurst Police Explorers have competed at National Conferences in Atlanta, Georgia, Flagstaff, Arizona; and Denver, Colorado.

The Explorer Post also allows qualified Explorers to take the passenger seat of a squad car and go out on patrol with the officers.  The Explorer will get to see first hand what a patrol officer does throughout his tour of duty.

Explorers help with various community events such as Lindenfest, lake County Fair, Earth Day, and the Park District Easter Egg Hunt and Haunted Trail.

Lindenhurst Police Explorer Requirements:

Getting involved with the Explorer Program is a good way to start a career in law enforcement.  Many former Lindenhurst Police Explorers have gone on tow work for local police agencies.
